PROFHILO: What the hype is all about?
“Anti-wrinkle treatment that also hydrates our skin.”
“Most popular anti-ageing treatment in Europe in 2019.”
“Virtually painless treatment.”
“Little to no downtime.”
What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is an injectable anti-ageing treatment made from hyaluronic acid (HA) for skin that is losing elasticity and firmness with age. This treatment can provide noticeable skin rejuvenation and hydration in just 2 sessions, because with one if the highest HA concentration it not only boosts and hydrates the skin, but also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue. Why have we not really heard about Profhilo?
Profhilo originated from Italy in February 2015. Since its world-wide launch at the beginning of 2016, Profhilo has been steadily gaining popularity, and has become one of the most popular aesthetics treatments in Europe. However, it was only approved for usage in Singapore in 2019. Fortunately for us, that means that there are more studies to review the efficacy and safety of this treatment.
So why bother with Profhilo?
Prohilo is a “smart” product that has multiple benefits in one. If you could only choose only one treatment for both anti-aging and hydration, then look no further. Profhilo contains both high molecular weight HA and low molecular weight HA are able to attract water molecules – hence hydrating the skin from inside-out and regenerate collagen and elastin in the skin, giving you:
- Plumping effect
- Increased elasticity
- Tightening effect
- Lifting effect
- Improved hydration
Who is Profhilo suitable for?
Profhilo is suitable for both men and women with mild to moderate signs of ageing skin. It is highly recommended for patients aged 30-50 years, who wish to hydrate their skin and also improve skin laxity, elasticity and fine lines. Generally, any patients above the age of 25 years old can also benefit from Profhilo.
Can I use Profhilo if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Profhilo has not been tested in pregnant or breastfeeding women, hence its safety for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding has not been determined.
Profhilo is also not recommended for patients who are:
- Allergic to product ingredients
- Allergic to Gram +ve bacterial proteins or lidocaine
- Currently having infected skin area – cold sores, acne
What is the treatment protocol like?
For most patients, the recommended regime is:
- 2 treatment sessions at 4 weeks-interval for its initial cycle
- A repeat cycle of 2 treatment sessions after 6 months.
For patients with severe skin laxity, the recommended regime is:
- 3 treatment sessions at 4 weeks-interval for its initial cycle
- A repeat cycle of 2 treatment sessions after 6 months
Profhilo works to smooth and hydrate the skin from the very first treatment. However, most optimal results are usually seen after the second treatment. This is because Profhilo takes time to work – two consecutive treatments a month apart allows Profhilo to stay in the skin for 60 days, triggering a longer-lasting response. It stimulates new collagen and elastin production in the skin to improve plumpness, firmness and bounciness. Results generally last up to six months post treatment, after which, a repeat cycle is recommended.
All sounds good so far?
Before you jump right into it, we have to note that administering Profilo is not quite as simple as just inserting a syringe directly into the problem wrinkle or scar tissue to make it all go away…
For Profhilo to be effective, it has to be carefully injected deeply into the dermis using the Bolus technique at strategic Bio Aesthetics Points (BAP) of the face. The serum is then slowly and smoothly released into the optimal skin layer where it will then spread evenly and get to work.
The injection process for Profhilo has been carefully designed and clinically tested for maximum efficiency and client comfort. This method allows minimal injection sites with very little tissue distension or irritation, therefore reducing risks and downtime.
What is the downtime like with Profhilo treatment?
There is little-to-no downtime for most patients. Some may experience very little blebs or bumps at the injection sites. If any, they will disappear as the products disperses, and will usually subside within 24 hours after treatment.
As with any injectable treatment, we recommend not having the treatment if you have an important event in the next 2 weeks, as bruising and swelling, although rare, may occurs.
So, to summarize…
Why is Profhilo preferred by many patients?
Apart from its excellent results, Profhilo also has:
- Reduced number of treatment sessions if compared to traditional skinboosters
- Reduced number of injection sites, and therefore reducing discomfort per session
- Reduced or eliminated downtime
