Her World Doc Talk Aug: Rejuran Healer
A woman’s No. 1 skin concern is anti-ageing. Dr Karen Soh, medical director of Prive Clinic, tells you about an essential multi-tasking aesthetics treatment that helps heal, calm and repair the skin, so it looks younger and more flawless.
Q I’m hitting the big 4-0 soon and I want to do something about the acne scars and dark marks from my younger days. How do I repair my battered skin?
At this age, skin tends to be drier as the skin loses natural hydration which leads to more visible fine lines and wrinkles. As your oestrogen levels starts to dip, this directly affects your collagen and elastin levels, which means that your skin will start to sag and wrinkle and it will be more visible on your neck and chest area. Lastly, you may also notice pigmentation and dark spots beginning to surface from cumulative sun damage over the years.
Now, the goal here would be to heal and repair the skin while treating ageing problems. Rejuran Healer is an injectable skin healing treatment formulated to repair damaged skin cells, promote cell growth and stimulate collagen formulation.
It is made of polynucleotide (PN), derived from salmon DNA. This treatment is a series of micro-injections to activate the self-regeneration ability of skin, improving skin health, skin elasticity and healing skin damage caused by aging and the harmful UV rays from the sun. Rejuran Healer counters the effects of ageing by healing and protecting the skin from inside out.
The procedure involves injecting Rejuran Healer into the inner layer (dermis layer) of your skin. Using ultra-fine needles, this procedure is less painful, and results in less bruising as compared to other more invasive treatments. Our doctors at Privé use the manual method which is recommended by experts to provide maximum absorption. As this is a meticulous procedure which requires specialised skills (slanting the microneedle at an angle, injection spot located 0.5cm – 2cm from one another), it is best to consult an experienced practitioner for optimal and effective results.
For long-lasting skin renewal and healing, we recommend 3 treatment sessions over 3 months. At Privé, we curated a Skin Revival Program and it has been extremely popular with our patients. It combines Rejuran Healer with a skin resurfacing laser to target and treat both the top surface and inner layers of the skin to amplify results, shorten downtime and speed up recovery. The resulting effect? Firm, dewy skin that last for months.
Q I want to treat my mum to an aesthetics treatment and thinking of making it a mum-daughter affair. What’s a treatment that we could both benefit from, especially since we both want flawless, smooth skin. I’m in my 30s and Mum in her 50s.
Rejuran Healer is a treatment that works well for anyone of all ages. It would greatly benefit individuals with damaged skin conditions related to the sun, ageing or acne and acne scars.
At mid-20s, we start ageing and losing collagen. Hence we recommend to start Rejuan Healer to delay the ageing process. For individuals in their 30s, you may expect to see improvements in skin tone and skin texture (thickening of the skin and improved skin function) which results in healthier looking skin. Individuals with oily skin, acne scars, blemishes, enlarged pores will experience a significant difference after the initial course of 3-4 treatments depending on the individual’s skin condition. Rejuran Healer is also excellent for young adults as a preventive treatment to delay the ageing process, so you will always look younger than your age.
For individuals in their 50s, there would have been a significant reduction in level of collagen and elasticity as compared to the skin in their 30s. Also, they may notice an increase in amount of dark spots and hyperpigmentation due to the cumulative sun damage, and more fine lines and wrinkles. Rejuran Healer aims to help regenerate skin cells and improve the biological condition of the damaged skin. After a more intensive course of treatment, one may expect improved skin density and elasticity, recovered protective layers of skin, balanced oil and moisture levels, reduced pigmentation, tightened pores and more plumped and dewy glass skin.
Q What is the difference between Skinboosters, Profhilo and Rejuran for anti-ageing and skin lifting?
Although both Skinboosters and Rejuran Healer are administered in a rather similar manner, they have different functions and work quite differently.
Skinboosters are typically made up of Hyaluronic acid (HA), a water-binding molecule that can hold up to 10000 times its weight in water. By providing deep hydration to the dermis, this treatment increases rehydration capabilities and gives the skin a smoother appearance by plumping up the skin, which leads to reduced appearance of fine lines, firmer, more youthful skin.
On the other hand, Rejuran Healer treatment takes on a reparative approach to anti-aging. It actively treats, repairs and heals damaged skin cells and reverses signs of aging to keep the skin young and healthy.
Profhilo uses the 5-point bio-modelling injection method and is predominately used for those who are concerned with wrinkles and skin laxity. It helps reverse signs of aging with a more significant plumping of the skin, and is most suitable for mature skin.
Which treatment is right for you? If dryness is a predominant problem, opt for skinboosters. For sensitive, problematic and severely damaged, ageing skin, Rejuran Healer would be the ideal choice. If you are mostly concerned with fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity, Profhilo would be good for you.
The three different treatments may also be combined to achieve a synergistic effect depending on the patient’s unique concerns. At Privé we do not recommend mixing them, but instead doing the treatments one after another in the same seating.
